SOMALIA’S RETURN TO ITS RIGHTFUL PLACE IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY THROUGH EAC MEMBERSHIP: REMARKABLE MILESTONE UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF PRESIDENT DR. HASSAN SH. MAHAMUD   As Somalia celebrates its membership of the EAC today, it's important to note that this is a remarkable milestone towards achieving stability and economic growth. Though some authors and political activists in Somalia might argue that Somalia’s EAC membership would infringe on its sovereignty, I beg to differ. There are no instances in the entire world where regional organizations interfered with governments of its member states. Governments have always operated independently regardless of their membership into any regional blocs. Somalia’s EAC membership comes at a time where Somalia is on the right path towards political and economic stability under the current administration. This article reiterates the reasons why Somalia made the right decision to join EAC. These include: Access to a Larger Market

Right Track to Political Stability and Sustainable Development under Leadership of President Dr Hassan Sh Mahamud   The article titled “The utilization of the War on Terror as a Façade for Establishing a Dictatorial Regime” by Sheiknor Abukar Qasim is an unfounded criticism that tries to cover up what President Dr Hassan Sh. Mahamud is trying achieve for Somalia. Failure to land a job or a position in the current administration have made some intellectuals who happen to have been supporting the previous regime to resort to writing criticism articles. It is important to note that the critics in the above reviewed article appears to be heavily biased and lacks a balanced perspective. Here are some points of critique: Lack of Evidence : The article makes several strong claims about the president's behavior, such as turning the country into a "family affair" and a "one man show." However, it lacks concrete evidence or examples to support these allegations. I

FORCED ACCESS TO RED SEA PORT BY ETHIOPIA IS A THREAT TO SOMALIA SOVEREIGNTY

FORCED ACCESS TO RED SEA PORT BY ETHIOPIA IS A THREAT TO SOMALIA SOVEREIGNTY   The recent statement made by the Ethiopian Prime Minister, in which he argued that Ethiopia, being a landlocked country, the authority to use force to attain access to the sea, is a troubling departure from the principles of global cooperation and harmonious coexistence. This assertion clearly goes against the United Nations Charter, international law, and the fundamental values that support our interconnected global community. The assertion of the right to access the sea and the disputes surrounding it have been a notable source of conflict. Nevertheless, it is crucial to differentiate between a nation's legitimate entitlement to peaceful sea access, as safeguarded by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and acts of outright territorial aggression. Ethiopia's historical interactions with its neighboring nations have experienced both positive and negative moments. No

Waging War on Corruption

By:-Dahir Salad Hassan Political Counselor Permanent Mission of Somalia to the United Nations, New York 04 Jun 2023 Waging a well-thought out and systematic war on corruption is paradigm-shift that would lead to efficient, effective and result-oriented public sector management as well as institutional check and balance. Somalia’s current government is on the right track to increase political accountability and retrace and re-claim the democratic values which we championed the African continent as being a young, unified, an independent country in the sixties (60). Our own history admits that democracy not only ensures good and accountable government institutions with checks and balances, but also empowers the citizens to participate and hold their government accountable. Our forefathers fought for the liberation of the country from European colonial rulers, therefore, it us, our generation that must stand up and liberate the country from the extremist ideology and corruption.  C

Why it is Important to Lift Arm Embargo in Somalia

Image
History of Arms Embargo imposed on Somalia Government Arms embargo is a prohibition that applies to the trade or activities related to military items and is usually imposed by the United Nations. Somalia has a history of conflict and instability, and there have been efforts to control the flow of arms into the country. The United Nations Security Council has authorized regional organizations, such as the African Union, to assist the Somali government in establishing security and implementing arms embargoes on specific entities or regions within Somalia, such as Al-Shabaab. The arms embargo was first introduced on Somalia in 1992 with the aim of reducing the supply of weapons to warring clan-based groups that had ousted President Mohamed Siad Barre, leading to a civil war in the country. Nonetheless, the ineffective and corrupt federal government in Mogadishu has been actively supporting the removal of the embargo, stating its inability to acquire weapons for countering the threat p
